This year I started a project.
For most of my life I have called myself a photographer and an artist. My first love, of course, being photography.
This year...or actually late last year...I made the decision to truly explore the artistic side of myself. My life had taken a turn, I had a back injury that would keep me from traveling like I normally would, which would make photography something that would have to be on the back burner, and life was in a bit of chaos. I needed to focus and feel productive and most of all, I needed to create. I had never done much more than play in the arts. Mostly graphite, some acrylic, bits and pieces of other things, but nothing serious. I wanted to see if I could take it a step further.
I wish I had chronicled this adventure. It turned out to be so much more than I expected.
I bought quality materials for the first time. I started with graphite, added watercolor, went to pen and ink, on to charcoal, then on to oils, and I'm finishing the year with pastels...though I have focused primarily on oils and charcoal. They feel the most natural to me.
I've decided I'm going to continue this journey into the new year, but now I'd like to keep a log of it. I'll be posting here, and on Instagram. If you think it might be interesting for you, I'd love for you to come along for the ride.
